One of only seven musicals to win the Pulitzer Prize for drama, Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park with George" brings to life George Seurat's famous painting "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." Seurat immerses himself wholly in his art, unable to commit to anything or anyone else-including his mistress, Dot. Later, George of the 20th century struggles to find inspiration and beauty in a modernized world. In this fictionalized acount of Seurat's life, Sondheim explores the tension between loving the art we create and connecting with the people who inspire us and illuminating the joy and emotional cost of creating great art.
